上下传来事转虚
天边接得一封书
书中许我功名遂
直到终时亦是虚
A message distorted as it travels down from the top,
From the edge of heaven, a letter is received.
It claims to offer rank and honor to one self,
Yet proves to be only false in the end.
签意/Meaning
虚名之象。凡事虚多、实少、宜守旧也。
An empty name and title. Many things are not what they seem and you should stick to conventions and traditions.
解曰/Interpretation
上下心烦 求闲不闲 欲望功名 守旧得安
Burden oneself with too many thoughts and concerns, hence one is not able to enjoy being idle. Instead of concerning yourself with rank and title, it is better to stay and manage your present affairs well.
